Establishing a Savings Group to Improve Community Livelihoods

Svay Rieng, July 21, 2025 – The Coalition of Cambodian Farmers Community (CCFC) organized a meeting on the establishment and management of a savings group for community members in Chhouk Sor Village, Cheuteal Commune, Svay Chrum District, Svay Rieng Province. The meeting was attended by community members, activists, women's groups, and young farmers who are interested in contributing to the economic development of their communities.

The primary goal of forming the savings group is to create a transparent and accountable internal financial management system. The group will operate under clear guidelines, including defined interest rates, savings periods, and profit-sharing methods to ensure that all members benefit fairly and equitably.

The importance of savings lies in its effectiveness as a tool for financial security and daily livelihood planning. It enables community members to build emergency reserves, invest in small businesses, enhance their ability to manage money purposefully, strengthen community cooperation, and promote trust and accountability among members.

The meeting also discussed the distribution of roles within the committee to ensure efficient group management. These roles include group leader, secretary, treasurer, key holder, and general members.

The Coalition of Cambodian Farmers Community believes that the establishment of savings groups is a strategic approach to improving grassroots community livelihoods. It provides members with opportunities for personal economic development and enhances their capacity to manage financial resources more effectively.
